THAT Guy

Why we send our daughters to college

Spring makes me reminisce on those carefree days of college. Last year this time I was on campus with my daughter for her senior year Mom’s Weekend. In the words of Cher, “if I could turn back time”, I wouldn’t change a thing. In preparation, I prepared a video as a tribute to her sorority sisters. Said video has been deleted to protect the innocent, but the message is expressed in this cake.

Why do we send our kids to college? Different for each one, but it has something to do with us too. If we are “good” parents, our kids go to college. If we are “great” parents, our kids go to Elite colleges. If we are EXCEPTIONAL parents, we listen to our kids and coach them on their journey to be the best version of themselves. Whoever said motherhood was a selfless profession didn’t raise most millennials. Parenting done well is giving your kids the best part of you and your spouse and praying they only get a few of your faults.

So I sent this daughter to school for these reasons:

  1. Get off the family payroll

  2. Learn your tolerances

  3. Make Lifelong Friends

  4. Have some fun (provided the 1st step is completed)

  5. Meet THAT Guy!

I am so proud that she checked all the boxes. #Soproud.

So this video had a great soundtrack featuring Lizzo’s “Good As Hell” remixed with Ariana Grande – drop the mic - hair toss, check your nails, baby how you feeling . . .

So the cake – who is “That Guy” well HE is actually several guys. Annie Cavalero captured the essence of THAT Guy! in her May 20, 2014 article in Hello Giggles entitled “The 10 Guys Every Girl Should Date Before Getting Married.” A few of my favorites are:

The Mama’s Boy

The Best Friend

The Grouper

The Selfish Jerk

The Level-10 Clinger

The Shelfer

The Manchild

The Career Man

The Practice Husband

The Perfect Man on Paper

Between her and her friends they met them all. #Sograteful. That Guy is now in my daughter’s review view mirror as she is on her journey to finding THE Guy. I know THE guy will be exceptional and up to the challenge because anyone who can survive the vetting, or her father and brother will be a saint in the making. He will cherish her and honor her. He will be frustrated by her and know that it is sooo worth it.

Back to the cake . . . this cake is loved by many #FanFavorite but is a particular favorite of THAT guy:

  • He is impressed with the 3-layer presentation

  • It is simple but he thinks it’s the best thing he ever ate.

  • He can’t eat just one piece – yet he has no idea how calorie rich this bomb is

  • His indiscriminately eating (amongst other bad habits) will catch up to him #PayBack . . .

THAT Guy is #SoWorthKnowing and as a mother I enjoy and admire many parts of him. He’s just not THE Guy.

It is a really great cake that travels well, despite its vertical challenge. As I mentioned, above all, it is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Here is the recipe.
